The Wall Street Journal cited the “celestial talent” of the Broadway Ballyhoo, and this unique concert series continues to prove the truth of it, continuing now in its 9th smash hit month. And, as always, the Broadway Ballyhoo will have its surprises, as well.

Produced and hosted by SCOTT SIEGEL (Broadway by the Year, Broadway Unplugged, Nightlife Awards, etc.), the Thursday, 11 PM show continues to draw hot and happy — and starry — audiences. Among those who have come to see these shows are Liza Minnnelli, Angela Bassett, Kim Cattrall, Keith David, Dr. Cornell West, Lisa Lampanelli, Starr Jones, Clive Davis (Sony Records), and, of course, Michael Feinstein (many times). The popular late show has brought back the concept of post theater entertainment in this stunningly inexpensive concert series…

CHECK OUT THE GLOWING BALLYHOO RECOMMENDATION FROM THE WALL STREET JOURNAL…

“At last, this late-night musical-theater-centric omnibus series is ready for prime time: Given a week-long run in the 8 p.m. spot, producer Scott Siegel shook the rafters and programmed some of his most celestial talent. On Friday the round-up includes some truly idiosyncratic entertainers in Carole J. Bufford, the youngest and most vivacious of the red-hot mamas; the party-hearty jazz singer Allan Harris; the powerful baritone William Michals; and Howard Fishman, who appeals equally to fans of Ukulele Ike and Bob Dylan. On Saturday, the attractions in the center ring are Karen Mason, a true Broadway ballyhoo-er if ever there was one; and the big-toned tenor Bill Daugherty. If they’re taking requests, here’s hoping that Mr. Fishman favors us with “Mexican Radio” and that Mr. Daugherty will break our hearts with Francesca Blumenthal’s poignant “Fireflies.”"
-Will Friedwald, The Wall Street Journal

THE BROADWAY BALLYHOO FESTIVAL!
Each Night Different Stars!
Each Night Different Show Tunes!
Each Night a Different Show!
July 17 – 21 at Feinstein’s at Loew’s Regency
Music Charge: $25 or $35 (premium seating) and just a $25 dinner show minimum

After eight critically acclaimed months at Feinstein’s, performing every Thursday night at 11 PM to delighted crowds of late night musical theater fans, Scott Siegel’s Broadway Ballyhoo will take the stage for one week only during prime time with five entirely different 8 PM shows from Tuesday, July 17 thru Saturday, July 21. Scott, who has produced more than 100 major concerts in New York at venues like Town Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center, has assembled a stunning cast of stellar performers, promising a different great cast, singing different show tunes, every single night of the Ballyhoo Festival. Among the stellar performers that will be on hand to entertain are: Drama Desk Nominee Kevin Earley (Death Takes a Holiday), William Michals (Emile de Becque in Lincoln Center’s production of South Pacific), Karen Mason (Sunset Blvd. and the upcoming Rebecca), Ben Davis (Tony Honoree, Baz Luhrman’s La Boheme), Howard Fishman (acclaimed concert artist and recording star), Jessica Burrows (Lara in La Jolla Playhouse production of Dr. Zhivago), Jarrod Spector (Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys on Broadway), among many other great talents.

Said the show’s creator and host, Scott Siegel, “Every night from July 17 to 21 will be both an opening and closing night. This is an unprecedented move from our late night perch once a week to a run of five days in a row — and that includes ramping up a brand new musical revue with great stars and great songs every single night. Most importantly, though, I’m delighted to have the chance to offer audiences at 8 PM the same kind of fun, casual, yet musically exhilarating shows that we’ve been giving audiences at 11 PM for the last 8 months. When this week is over, we’ll return to our open-ended run of Thursday’s at 11 PM, but we hope we’ll create some converts to late night show tunes!”

FEATURING

BARBARA WALSH, JACK NOSEWORTHY,
KAREN MASON, WILLIAM MICHALS,

STEPHEN DeROSA, BEN DAVIS,
CAROLE J. BUFFORD,

CHRISTIANA BIANCO, SCOTT COULTER

AND MORE

JULY 17 – 21

FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY, the nightclub proclaimed “Best of New York” by New York Magazine and “an invaluable New York institution” by The New York Post will continue its Summer 2012 season with a full week of Scott Siegel’s BROADWAY BALLYHOO FESTIVAL. The popular and critically acclaimed fixture BROADWAY BALLYHOO, which has played the last eight months every Thursday night at 11:00 PM, will move to primetime at 8:00 PM for one week only from Tuesday, July 17 through Saturday, July 21. In keeping with the Broadway Ballyhoo format, each show in its primetime run will feature an entirely different cast of stars and an entirely different set of show tunes. The performers featured on various nights will include Barbara Walsh (Tony Award nominee), Jack Noseworthy (Broadway and film star), Karen Mason (Wonderland, Sunset Blvd.), William Michals (South Pacific), Stephen DeRosa (Into The Woods), Ben Davis (Tony Award honoree), Carole J. Bufford (award winning vocalist), Christiana Bianco (Drama Desk nominee), Scott Coulter (award wining vocalist) and many more.

Scott Siegel, the show’s creator and host who has also been responsible for more than 100 major concerts at The Town Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center, said “the Broadway Ballyhoo has been playing to full houses every Thursday night at 11:00. We have happily found an audience of folks who want to hear great singers, singing great show tunes at the end of the evening. But this special Ballyhoo Festival gives us a chance to reach those people who like to hear this music but can’t always stay up that late on a Thursday night. We wanted to give them a taste of what we offer every week. And, in fact, most of the people who will be performing in the Festival have also performed during the 11 PM shows on Thursdays. So this is the real deal.

“And the price is right: $35 for premium seats, $25 for general admission, and a two drink minimum to hear singers like Tony Award nominee Barbara Walsh (Company, Falsettos), Wiliam Michals (Emile de Becque in the Lincoln Center production of South Pacific), Stephen DeRosa (The Baker in the revival of Into the Woods), Ben Davis (Tony Award honoree for Baz Luhrman’s La Boheme), and so many other great talents.”

FEINSTEIN’S AT LOEWS REGENCY will present Scott Siegel’s BROADWAY BALLYHOO on Thursday, July 12 at 11:00 PM and the BROADWAY BALLYHOO FESTIVAL from Tuesday, July 17 through Saturday, July 21 at 8:00 PM, before resuming on Thursday, July 26 at 11:00 PM and continuing every Thursday night at 11:00 PM in August and throughout the year. The 8:00 PM shows have a cover charge of $25.00 to $35.00 and a two drink minimum per person. The 11:00 PM shows have a cover charge of $15.00 to $25.00 and a one drink minimum per person. Jackets are suggested but not required. The club is located at 540 Park Avenue at 61st Street in New York City. HOT OFF THE PRESSES!!
Check out the rave review Broadway Ballyhoo received…

THE BROADWAY BALLYHOO
Feinstein’s at Loews Regency, NYC, Thursdays
(seen Dec. 22, 2011/ Jan. 12, 2012)

Don’t believe the rumors that nobody performs or attends show in NYC after the moon is high or that the prices are always high for all cover charges/minimums and menu items at the posh Feinstein’s at Loews Regency. The new Broadway Ballyhoo—A Show Tune Hootenanny who’s-who of knockout performers presents the present exceptional exception. It’s a different program each week (Thursdays at 11 pm) with a revolving cast of singers, though some re-revolve and are booked for other nights—but with different material. There are, however, many returnees in the audience as each following Thursday increases the following. Also on hand with the hand mic on a regular basis (except on the night when he was hosting another show at The Town Hall across town the same night!) is host Scott Siegel. Curated by this incurably Broadway-addicted impresario, it’s a treat. He sets an informal and informed tone with gracious introductions. (A few more of his theatre history trivia tidbits and playful comments would be welcome, but he seems determined to give the packed room a packed show and that very large clock on the wall near where he stands might be a standing reminder that it’ll soon be ‘round midnight.) He sounds genuinely excited and pleased as punch to have three, four or five vibrant but varied singers each time. (And why shouldn’t he be pleased? He’s chosen them himself among those who’ve previously impressed him; he knows their work as a longtime theatre and cabaret reviewer and creator of concert events and the Nightlife Awards.) He has musical theatre and cabaret folks share more up-close-and-personal takes on musical theater gold and/or go for exciting big blasts of Broadway belting.

Early editions of this late-night event found lively doings with these Ballyhooligans. True to its Broadway title, those with Broadway pedigrees are prominent. Appearing on two separate Thursdays, Joan Almedilla, a replacement in the title role of Broadway’s Miss Saigon, was effective with material from that show as well as with numbers like “There Won’t Be Trumpets” by Stephen Sondheim, delivered with serene confidence plus just the right hint of tension and doubt. At the Christmas show, Tony winner Alice Ripley stepped outside the usual genre to bring some dignified, hushed majesty and no slush or mush to traditional seasonal fare with songs honoring the birth of the baby Jesus. Jesus Christ Superstar—the musical, that is—was represented by “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” with fervent feeling by Maya Dayes, who also revisited her time in the Broadway musical Aida. Although she was powerful with both drama and pipes, her interpretations were sometimes a bit internalized or self-indulgent, with less audience connection beyond some folks she knew were in the house to whom she played. But she has charisma and added a guitar and cello to what’s usually a piano/voice set-up—and that was sublime.

Chatty, cheery, charming Natalie Douglas assured kindred spirits, “I love night owls. I’ve been one since I was a child.” She talked about e-mailing back and forth with sleepless-in-Manhattan Siegel at 4:00 in the morning to discuss what song would be best to come and sing: “The Best Is Yet to Come” was what they came up with for an upbeat number. It’s surely a solid, sure-fire pick-me-up number often picked by upbeat singers, and she does it well, but I was more impressed with her more unusual choice. That surprising and quite rewarding came when she had a go at the being both plucky and perplexed in “Go to Sleep”; the reception indicated that many were glad they hadn’t taken that nocturnal action advised on this number written for the film version of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. Natalie gushed about loving the movie and the matching floral sheets, wallpaper and nightgown of its star, Barbra Streisand, who sang it on screen in a duet with herself in another flower-covered outfit, thanks to movie magic. It was great to hear this piece by Burton Lane and Alan Jay Lerner. Lerner lyrics were also embraced by that liquid lightning known as Marilyn Maye, who keeps winning cabaret awards even after collecting the Lifetime Achievement statuettes. (She’s up for yet another MAC Award in the Celebrity category for her solo show at Feinstein’s, and returns to the venue with a different set in April.) Delighting while fighting a virus, she barely let the bug bug her. This can-do/can-do-no-wrong lady gave My Fair Lady numbers more than a fair dose of her own spirited spin, seemingly on a real high with the Loewe melodies. Then she navigated her newest triumphant way through Sondheim’s “I’m Still Here,” the challenging piece about facing life challenges. She kibitzed with the pianist and crowd.

Other performers who’ve been tapped for the weekly series have been cast members from the current revival production of Godspell, Barbara Walsh, Larry Gatlin, Lauren Kennedy, and recent Cabaret Scenes cover girls Terri White and Tanya Holt—as well as the alumni of the previously reviewed revue that preceded it (11 O’Clock Numbers at 11 O’Clock) that preceded it: Carole J. Bufford, Christina Bianco and Scott Coulter. Though both feature Broadway showstoppers and snuggled into the same time slot, Ballyhoo is not to be confused with 11 O’Clock Numbers—the earlier concept was a run of the same set set and the new show’s ambitious idea is a different show and different cast each time. But for those who want to be confused, or never saw the long-running revue, that trio will reunite and recycle it… but at an earlier hour (7 pm) at a different venue (Birdland) once more (for now), and that’s not an April Fool trick (but it will be the night after April Fool’s Day, which is not a Thursday; it’s a Monday).

Meanwhile, back at Feinstein’s on Thursdays each week, this late, late show is the great, great show to count on. For you who are normally weekday early-to-bed types (with or without matching floral print nightgowns and sheets), may I suggest that it can be well worth remaining awake past your bedtime. There’s lots of Broadway material to mine and mine will be among the smiling returning faces. Whether we hear classics like “Bali H’ai” at Ballyhoo or selections from the more recent shows, it’ll be fine at Feinstein’s as any Thursday ends and the excitement begins. The staying-up-late event has staying power, with powerhouse performers.

Alice Ripley, Nancy Anderson, Kevin Earley, & Carole J. Bufford
Star in Scott Siegel’s BROADWAY BALLYHOO: A Show Tune Hootenanny!
Thursday, Jan. 5th at 11 PM at Feinstein’s at Loew’s Regency
Scott Siegel’s concert series at Feinstein’s at Loew’s Regency, originally announced to occur every Thursday at 11 PM except for the first Thursday of every month has been changed! As of this week, his BROADWAY BALLYHOO: A Show Tune Hootenanny! will happen EVERY SINGLE Thursday night at 11 PM (without exception) in an open run! Announced to star this Thursday, January 5th at 11 PM will be Tony Award Winner Alice Ripley (her second appearance in The Ballyhoo), Drama Desk & Olivier Nominee Nancy Anderson, Kevin Earley (Death Takes a Holiday), and the award-winning vocalist Carole J. Bufford (also making her second appearance in The Ballyoo). Musical Direction by Jesse Kissel and hosted by Series Creator/Producer: Scott Siegel

In a statement, Siegel said, “I’m thrilled to have Alice Ripley back again in the series. In her last appearance, before Christmas, she performed several holiday numbers. This time, she’ll be singing from Next to Normal and Side Show. Nancy Anderson and Kevin Earley will perform a wide variety of classic show tunes, plus step up to perform one of musical theater’s great duets from Show Boat. Carole J. Bufford, who earned acclaim for her stunning performances every Thursday night at Feinstein’s in 11 O’Clock Numbers at 11 O’Clock returns to this new concert series with several new dramatic numbers. In other words, I expect this to be one our best shows so far. And I can’t emphasize too much how extremely affordable this show is: just a $15 music charge ($25 for ringside) and just a one drink minimum (or dine instead). And there’s a late nite menu with reasonably priced food and drink. It’s actually about the same price as a movie with a large soda and popcorn. Maybe less! No kidding!”
